Nubble Lighthouse

by Pat on August 1, 2011

We spent a long weekend in Ogunquit, Maine this past weekend. The purpose of our trip was to photograph a wedding (keep an eye out on OBrienPhoto.net for those wedding photos!). We made a long weekend out of the trip and spent our spare time wandering around the coast. We headed to York, Maine on our way home to check out the Nubble Lighthouse. I scaled the rocks a bit and set up very low to the water to capture this shot. I love how it came out. I think the water and the lighthouse balance each other nicely.

Yellowstone Falls

by Pat on April 21, 2011

Another shot from Yellowstone today. This one is on the Canyon side of the park. Kate was terrified to leave the car, so I ventured alone down the path to grab this shot. I didn’t quite know what I was in for until I turned the corner and saw this shot. It was an amazing sight and I hope I’ve captured that!

Boston Boats

by Pat on January 20, 2011

Taken during the Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk in Boston during the 2010 summer. These boats almost offered me perfect symmetry. That’s what initially caught my attention with them, I was a little bummed out that the back boat is slightly off a bit. In the end, I still love this photo, perfect or not!

With all this snow on the ground, it’s given me plenty of time to go through my 2010 library and process some of the photos I initially overlooked. It’s quite fun to go back through and work on photos that I have forgotten about!

Old Faithful Sun Rays

by Pat on January 17, 2011

It’s been a quiet first couple of weeks for me in 2011 besides getting sick with food poisoning which I caught on New Years Day. I’ve also been working on a small new side project. Would love it if you checked it out and even subscribed for updates! It’s called PureGreed.com and it’s a buyers guide geared towards men. Stuff you never knew you wanted, all in one place.

Anyways, since we’ve received about 25″ of snow here in Western Massachusetts last week, I’ve been dreaming of warmer places without snow. I immediatly though of our trip to Yellowstone last summer. This is another shot taken at Old Faithful waiting for it to erupt. The sun had dipped below the cloud line and gave off these great rays that I couldn’t help but capture.

Hope you enjoy!

Cunningham Cabin

by Pat on December 20, 2010

I love the Canon 14mm f/2.8L lens. It just fills up the frame with such beautifully rich colored landscape. This is one example of such an application of Cunningham Cabin located in Grand Teton National Park. Out in the middle of what seemed like nowhere, we happened to come across this cabin while looking for different photographic vantage points of the Grand Teton Mountain range. Instead of framing this cabin against the mountain range, I wanted to try and get a different angle of it. Since the 14mm made the mountain range look very small to begin with, I put it toward my back and shot away from it. I then really close on one corner of the building. I think the result came out great! Nice crisp blue sky with the soft green grass.

Just how close was I, you ask? Kate took this photo of me while I was framing up my shot.
