Ominous Glow

by Pat on January 13, 2010

Last week I shared the “Airplane Dial” of my old 1934 Silvertone antique tube radio. Today I show you what’s behind the dial. Like most radios from this generation it has an open back design, with some old vacuum tubes inside. These tubes glow when the radio is turned on, and shine onto the wall the radio is up against.

Radio’s that glow have a certain mystique to them, don’t you think?

The Old Beauty

by Pat on January 5, 2010

Today’s photo of the day is my 1934 Silvertone Antique radio. This is one of my favorite pieces in the house, and she’s still works! I’ve heard some programs in Spanish, and German (I think). I’m pretty sure if I put a larger antenna on it, I can maybe pick up Australia – who knows!
