My quest to find fall foliage failed while on vacation last week. It seemed to be too early in some spots, and in others it was already past peak. This year has been a weird year for foliage. In my area it’s late, so I gather I’ll be doing a lot of mini photowalks in the coming days!
While driving home from my Vermont foliage photography trip, I passed by the local lake and I knew I needed to get some shots because the foliage was perfect. I used my Promote Control to get some HDR shots of this scene, but the wind was just too much and the resulting HDR had too much ghosting. I opted to stick with the -1 EV and then clean it up in Photoshop.
The colors and the position of the swimming swans are what made this photo for me!

I had this past week off from work and enjoyed every minute of it! I usually take the first full week of October off so I can become a tourist in my home state and look for interesting areas with beautiful foliage. Unfortunatly it rained all week and if that wasn’t enough, the foliage hasn’t turned yet. So, over the weekend I had hoped Vermont would have some great foliage. We did a road trip up to southern VT and drove around for about 3 hours. It was a bust! Either some areas hadn’t even changed colors yet, or they were already past peak. It was really weird. Even in my home town everything is still green. Hopefully in the next week or two I can drive around town and find some interesting landscapes to photograph.
Today’s photo is one that I took in 2005 of the Mill at the Wayside Grist Inn in Sudbury, MA. This area was beautiful to shoot. I will be sure to share more photos from this area soon!

Today’s picture is from Vermont taken during this past foliage season. We usually do annual road trips to Vermont to do some leaf peeping. So while we were driving around the back roads on our 2009 road trip we came across this barn. This one snuck up on us from behind some trees, so once I saw it we pulled over and ended up having to reverse down the road! Good thing Vermont’s back roads hardly have any traffic on them!
