My Victrola phonograph

by Pat on January 14, 2010

“His Master’s Voice” is the slogan on my 1913 Victrola Phonograph. The sound this phonograph puts out almost 100 years later is amazing! It has an internal horn, and you control the volume by opening or closing the case doors. This is the 4 foot tall floor model. I’ll post more pictures of it in the future!

The record on the table is “Peg O’ My Heart” by Clark Dennis with Orchestra. My grandmother had a whole trunk filled with old records. When I got the phonograph she said we could go through the records to find ones I wanted. I’m not too familiar with most of the names on the old 78s, so as I was going through them I kept saying the names out loud. When we came across this record she lit up because this was the song she shared with my grandfather. She said I could keep it and I thought that was an awesome gift.

To help make this photo feel as old as the phonograph, I vintaged it a little. Thanks for checking it out!

Ominous Glow

by Pat on January 13, 2010

Last week I shared the “Airplane Dial” of my old 1934 Silvertone antique tube radio. Today I show you what’s behind the dial. Like most radios from this generation it has an open back design, with some old vacuum tubes inside. These tubes glow when the radio is turned on, and shine onto the wall the radio is up against.

Radio’s that glow have a certain mystique to them, don’t you think?

The Old Beauty

by Pat on January 5, 2010

Today’s photo of the day is my 1934 Silvertone Antique radio. This is one of my favorite pieces in the house, and she’s still works! I’ve heard some programs in Spanish, and German (I think). I’m pretty sure if I put a larger antenna on it, I can maybe pick up Australia – who knows!
