Using whatever resources you have at hand can really save you in a pinch. Brian Matiash and I went out for a little Urban Exploration (URBEX), and came across an old Infirmary. When we got inside we realized there was no light at all. Zero. Zip. Zilch. You couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. It was cold, pitch black dark and eerily quiet. HDR was out of the question since the brackets would need to be 10 minutes each most likely.
Trying to make the best out of something, we ventured in to check it out further. We walked past this elevator on our way upstairs. I knew on the way out I had to try and shoot it somehow. Without any flash strobes on hand, and no natural light, I decided to try and do some light painting with my Mag Light LED flashlight. I was very impressed with how bright the light was since it was LED. I think it did a great job with illuminating this scene.
I know there’s some lighting inconsistencies, but like I said at the beginning, use whatever resources you have at hand to try and make something work! We may never be able to get back to this scene, so I’m glad I was able to get it somehow.
