A look back at 2010

I read Brian Matiash’s blog post about his 2010 Retrospective, and it got me thinking about writing one up myself.

2010 was a huge year for me and photography. With all of my previous photos, the problem I had was I never really shared my work. I never tried to collaborate. I was too afraid of negative criticism. Seems foolish now, since that’s how we grow. Nonetheless, with fears of public humiliation in the forefront of my mind, I decided that on January 1st, 2010 my resolutions were 2 simple things;

  1. Take more photos.
  2. Start a blog and share those photos publicly.

As the first full year of having my photo blog online comes to a close, I want to say I think I blew the doors off those 2 goals. 2010 was a very successful year for me in so many ways. I’ve met some really great people on Twitter, and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. Their lessons, criticism, comments and all out willingness to help people is what amazes me about the photography network. I haven’t come across much negativity out there, instead I’ve found a growing network of hobbyists and professionals collaborating and make each other better at the craft. You can’t ask for anything more powerful.

There’s a few people I would like to mention. They’ve had an impact in where I am today.

Kate is at the top of my list. She went through a year of my obsession, *cough* I mean, hobby. For that I want to thank her first. Without her support, I most certainly wouldn’t be anywhere with this hobby.

Brian Matiash remains a daily inspiration for me and I enjoy reading the story behind every image he posts. I have a blast with Brian when we go out shooting. Great conversation and plenty of photography tricks to be learned.

Scott Wyden for all the advice he offers. Not just with photography, but with anything technology and social media. It’s rare you find someone who will go out of their way to help you, and Scott is one of those people.

Colby Perry, thank you for constantly reviewing almost every shot I take before I publish it to make sure it’s OK!

There are so many more people who remain inspirations for me, it’s tough to list them all. Bob Lussier, Jacob Lucas, Jacques Gudé, Mike Olbinski, Heath O’Fee, Mark Garbowski, Scott Frederick, Dave Wilson, Philip Case Cohen, and anyone else I may have missed. Thank you for your help and your inspiration!

Now, I’d like to share with you, my personal 10 favorite photos from 2010. I can’t wait to see what 2011 brings!
