First, a note about my website: While making some changes to my site’s database last night, I accidentally clicked on the wrong button which deleted the database. A mistake I won’t make again! Thankfully I had a 10 day old backup to restore. There is some fallout though. If you’re an RSS subscriber I apologize the duplicate entries! I had to manually enter in the last 10 days of posts, which created new RSS entries.
With all that being said, the site is back to normal as if nothing had ever happened! My suggestion to you: backup your site and databases regularly! If I didn’t have my 10 day old backup, the next one was about 3 months old and that would not have been fun to restore!
Anyways, onto today’s image from my trip to Yellowstone over this past summer. We stopped at the West Thumb Geyser Basin which is the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. These mineral springs are heated by thermal activity which is about 10,000 feet below the surface. This particular spring was so large that it didn’t fit into the Canon 14mm f/2.8L lens!
The rich blue color has to do with reflected sunlight. The blue range in the visible sunlight scatters around the water easier, and is reflected back to us. All the other colors get absorbed deep into the spring. I thought that was pretty interesting!
