Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

I’m back from my 8 day vacation to beautiful Wyoming. I’m still trying to get caught up on life a little, but I wanted to drop a quick blog post to update you. We vacationed at Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. We had a blast! We saw all the major things in Yellowstone, or “attractions” as the park rangers put it. From Old Faithful, to the Mammoth Hot Springs. It’s going to take me a while to sort through the 1,700 photos taken while on the trip, but I plan to share them as soon as they’re ready!

The image featured above is an HDR photo of the Roosevelt Arch which is at the North Gate. As you can see, the sun wasn’t cooperating with me resulting in a somewhat darker photo. (I bet that Promote Control would help in this situation!) Since the area is so open and the sky was so big, the sun played a big role in a lot of my shots. More times than not it was in the wrong spot for my composition. I had to do a lot of improvising given how we drove to each location. A re-visit at a more convenient time wouldn’t fit into our schedule.  Speaking of the sun this trip was hot! We were more than 6,000 feet in elevation, so we thought the temperatures would be cooler. Wrong – it got to about 85F daily. Makes for a long hot day when there isn’t a cloud in sight!

I plan on showing a few photos a week for the next few weeks, so be sure to subscribe and/or follow me on Twitter so you don’t miss anything!

I’ll close this post with the photo below. This is the park sign located right after the Roosevelt Arch at the North Gate. A classic photo no Yellowstone trip would be without!
